A Celebration of Short and Long lists…

There have been a plethora of Awards announcing their short-lists/long-lists in the past month and here at Penguin Teachers’ Corner, we would like to take a moment to say a huge CONGRATULATIONS to our authors and illustrators on their list success. Below you will find a summary of short-listed Authors and their titles, with links to the various websites for more information.

The YABBA Shortlist 2012

The YABBA awards are a children’s choice book award in 4 sections, presented annually.

Each year children nominate Australian children’s fiction books that have been published in the last ten years to create a short list. Children then read books from the YABBA short list and vote for their favourite books by a specified date in October. The winners are announced at an award ceremony where authors and illustrators receive YABBA citations presented by children.

The Inky Awards

The Inky’s are international awards for teen literature, voted for online by the readers of insideadog.com.au. There are three awards: the Gold Inky for an Australian book, the Silver Inky for an international book, and the Creative Reading Prize, won by a young person for a creative response to a book they love, in any format they choose.

The Gold Longlist (for Australian authors)

The Carnegie Medal

The Carnegie Medal is awarded annually to the writer of an outstanding book for children. It was established by in 1936, in memory of the great Scottish-born philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919). Carnegie set up more than 2800 libraries across the English speaking world and, by the time of his death, over half the library authorities in Great Britain had Carnegie libraries. The medal is awarded by CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals.
